It is finally confirmed by Tata that the production version of its highly awaited premium SUV concept H5X will be launched in the last quarter of the current financial year. To be more specific, it will be launched in January 2019. H5X SUV, which is named as Tata Harrier internally, made its debut at the Auto Expo earlier in 2018 and since then people have been waiting for its launch.
Tata is known to codename its models after birds and thus stuck to Harrier internally, but for markets, it is called H5X. There are two models that will be developed: one is a 5-seater, which is going to be launched by January end. The other, which will be launched a little later, is a 7-seat version that will come by a different name.
The one that is getting launched in this fiscal year will have a 2.0-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It will have 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. It is expected to come in the starting price range of around 12 Lakhs. The company is manufacturing it as a global car and thus plans to sell it in various countries across the globe competing with many other cars. In India, it will be competing against the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, etc.
The SUV is based on the OMEGA platform, which comes from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. This is the same platform that was integral in the success of models like Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
Going by the sketches of the production version, one can expect the model to come dressed in Tata’s trademark ‘humanity line’, though a little more defined. Tata’s humanity line connects the grille and the headlights. The floating roofline and the emphasized sheet metal contour provide it with a very sporty look. Similar to the exteriors, the interiors of H5X are also based on the concept and are packed with features that are sure to give its rivals a run for their money.
